Our
Employees
Bridges to Independence employs people who live where the people we serve live who are familiar with their own community. We listen to what individuals want in the person who will be spending time with them and often hire people who are familiar to them, such as a family member or a friend. We conduct extensive background checks on each potential employee that includes previous employment and personal references, a BCI criminal background check and a BMV driving record check. We then conduct an extensive interview to learn as much as we can about the person and to share what our expectations are of our employees. At the time of hire, the employee is required to provide proof of vehicle insurance, pass a driving test and a vehicle inspection, all designed to ensure the safety of the people he or she will be transporting.
Bridges to Independence believes that training is a never-ending process. We have a strong commitment to training all levels of employees involved in providing services. Classroom training includes Orientation to Bridges; Philosophy of Supported Living; Policy; Major Unusual Incidents; Medication Administration Training (Medication: Education and Delivery System, instructed by an RN) and CPR/First Aid/AED; Fire Safety; Universal Precautions. Most important is the emphasis placed on individualized one-on-one training that occurs with the individual receiving services in their home. Supervisors receive on-going training in all areas of personnel and program management with emphasis on assessment and program development skills.
Bridges to Independence supervisors are available 24 hours per day via Cell Phones for emergencies and are always available to back up staff when they are not available. Their #1 priority is to ensure that services occur.
